Improving the Nutrition for the Elderly

The background to this course is recent reports by the British Association for Parenteral and enteral Nutrition (BAPEN) report that one in ten older people are affected by malnutrition.

CSCI have also recently produced reports about the nutritional needs of the elderly in care homes. Consensus of opinion is that more emphasis must be placed upon meal times for this seemingly vulnerable group.

The National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) have expressed the view that “Lack of knowledge about nutrition by healthcare professionals” is a contributing factor.
